The U-22 rebuild update: Sorry it has taken so long fans! With heavy damage and light pockets a lot of time and thought has been put into the matter....but the wait is over. Crew Chief Eric Bell is in Pennsylvania this weekend with other members of the crew and they are starting the long rebuilding process of the current hull. We plan to post photos when we are able! If you haven't purchased your signatures yet, the clock is ticking! Your donations are greatly appreciated as this promises to be a long expensive rebuild. Thank you!

- 1 Spirit of Qatar - Dave Villwock
- 9 Jones Racing - Jon Zimmerman

STARTED AS TRAILER BOAT - 100 Fox Plumbing - Greg Hopp
In the winner-take-all finals, it was Jimmy Shane in the 5 Graham Trucking grabbing the inside lane. Steve David in the 6 Oh Boy! Oberto in lane two and Dave Villwock in the 1 Spirit of Qatar in lane three.
Shane hit the start line first, but Steve David grabbed the lead coming out of the first turn. Shane stayed right on his hip, but at the Sea World turn, David pulled father ahead. Villwock in lane three had fallen back a bit.
In lap two, Shane closed the gap. Shane and David went side-by-side, but David pulled back ahead at the end of lap two. At the end of lap three, it stayed a two boat race. Villwock stayed in third.
At the start of the final lap, it was only a three boat lead for David, but he started to lengthen it out and won by a little less than a roostertail.

As they came up to the start-line, Dave Villwock in lane two hit the line first and came out of the first turn in first. But Steve David in lane one was just a boat length behind. They ran close for most of the first lap, but Villwock picked up speed on lap two and went way out in front, about two roostertails on David.

Jimmy Shane and the Graham Trucking continued their great run this season with another heat victory.
Shane grabbed the inside lane with Tommy Thomson in the 11 Peters & May in lane two. Shane hit the line first and came out of the first turn and sprinted out to a four boat lead. Thompson and Zimmerman had a good race for second. Scott Liddycoat was late to the start and paid the price, having to start in 5th and reel in Mark Evans to move into 4th.
Zimmeran, meanwhile, passed up Thompson and tried to move in on Shane, but didn't have the boat speed to run him down.

The disappointing weekend continued for Kip Brown in the 17 Miss Red Dot, which had mechanical problems Saturday. Prior to the start of the heat, the Our Gang Racing team asked for a little more time to finish up work on the boat, but was denied by H1. In the water, the 17 started strong, but went dead in the water. It was restarted, but headed back to the pits.
Meanwhile, Steve David in the 6 Oh Boy! Oberto ran to a relatively easy win.

When the heat got back underway, it was Jimmy Shane grabbing the inside lane again. Dave Villwock took lane two as they came up to the start line. As they hit the start line, Shane immediately grabbed the lead, but Villwock was right on his hip. Greg Hopp was in third.
On the backstretch, Villwock hammered the 1 Spirit of Qatar and took the lead. Shane stayed right by Villwock at the end of lap one - less than two boat lengths. But the Qatar's boat speed was too much for the 5 Graham Trucking. Villwock started to pull away, going out to a roostertail lead in lap two. Racers settled in and held their positions.
With the 400 points for both Villwock and Steve David on Saturday, David kept his thin margin lead in the National High Points season championship.

ONE LAP PENALTY - JUMPED THE GUN
J. Michael Kelly grabbed lane one with Steve David in lane two and Scott Liddycoat in lane three at the start. Kelly led David across the start line, but the start went under review.
We had a great race for the first lap. At the end of lap one, David was slightly ahead of Kelly, but coming out of the first turn, Kelly grabbed it back. Back and forth they went with David taking the lead back on the back stretch and started to lengthen it out.
But wait! The 37 had a one lap penalty for hitting the line early and Kelly backed off the pedal.
David stretched it out to a roostertail lead over Scott Liddycoat to take the checkered flag. Meanwhile, Kelly took the 37 back into the pits - apparently for mechnical issues - giving up points.

Heat 1A was stopped when Kip Brown in the 17 Red Dot went dead in turn one right before the start. Officials decided it created a dangerous situation and put out the black flag. At the time of the stoppage, Jimmy Shane and Dave Villwock were side-by-side coming out of the second turn and headed toward start-finish at the end of lap one.

It was just four years ago that I had a phone line installed in San Diego (and paid for it out of my own pocket) so Hydroinsider.com could stream Steve Montgomery and Mark Allen calling the races in San Diego.
We piped the Public address system into a phone line. Then I rented space on a server in Richland, WA to redistribute the audio feed to a server farm in New York... And out to the Internet.
Now h1 has an audio and video feed for every race site, including San Diego. People may complain from time to time about h1, but they've got this important piece done so that we can all watch the races. Congrats.

Don't know if you noticed, but the U- designation for boats is gone from
the official references... It's now the 6 Boat instead of U-6.
Thoughts?
