MADISON COURIER: "U-16 Miss Elam Plus team... may pull out as well."

Normally, we don't pass along rumors... but when they're published in the newspaper, we figure you can look at them and make up your own mind. In the article in the Madison Courier about the U-37 team for sale was this tidbit:

The changes within the U-37 Schumacher Racing Team is the first of what could be a rough off-season for the American Boat Racing Association fleet. The status of the U-10 USA Racing Partners is still up in the air after the death of co-owner Kim Gregory and unconfirmed rumors have speculated that the U-16 Miss Elam Plus team - which skipped four of the six races this season - may pull out as well.

My emails to the Elam team have gone unanswered so far...

Hate to see the teams call it quits but somehow this seasons events don't surprise me at all. After the S.D Race it got allitte ugly, seems like the feelings were echoed. Man how screwed up. Good Luck and I enjoyed last season. To the U37 team, good luck to the schumachers. "D" Area 51 Racing

Well, this makes me very sad indeed. I hope this isn't the final nail in the coffin of Unlimited Hydroplane racing as we have known it. Lost race sites, and now, quite possibly two of the most competitive teams may be gone. Why in hell hasn't anyone tried to cross breed the sport with NASCAR? Tieing it in with the tunnel boats a few years ago was idiotic. It is the NASCAR fans we should go after. With them will come interest, new race sites and most importanly the big money sponsors. Starting in February 2009, all the owners need to pool their resources and send display boats and a big media tent with race videos around to the NASCAR races. Introduce the sport to their fans. Times a wastin.
