U-10 status for San Diego

|

While there's been no official confirmation, we hear that the U-10 USA Racing Partners team will not participate in the final race at San Diego with the passing of team owner Kim Gregory.

with the loss of kim gregory the last of the great boat owners has passed. without the u-10 and u-1 at san diego the u-6 should have a cakewalk to the championship. with sports putting asterisks next to records and players maybe one here is appropriate. without real competition at EVERY race this year it was very boring for competitors as well as us fans of the sport. this is one more reason why fan and sponsor support is fading as fast as the sport of unlimited hydroplane racing. if the exhibitions in the middle east are a success, maybe it might flurish as it did in the past. one can only hope.

You might want to get your facts straight, seattlebustech. The U-1 WILL be in 'dago. Let's see, Boeing is sponsoring the race, as well as their backup hull, oh, and the ABRA site lists the U-1 as confirmed for the race, so where do you get this "without the U-1" bs? Besides, even IF they weren't going, does that mean you don't consider Formula Boats, and the Schumacher's, as quality competition?

Where was the uncompetative racing this year?! The east swing fans were probably elated to see someone besides Villwock winning their races. If there was no competition the Oberto would have rolled to two straight wins as the Gold Cup got blown out. I saw some of the greatest racing in Tri-Cities that I've ever seen in my nearly 30 years of hydro fandom! And as for San Diego the Ellstrom's have said they are going. If the U-10 does not show that still leaves a ten boat field of which four boats have won in as many races. How is this boring and not competative?!

you are right in that the boeing boat will be there but as of last weekend(knowing the driver personally) the primary boat wasn't going. even the chief referee was told.as far as the rest of the fleet it's hard to see who the real best of the best is when they all don't show up at all the racetracks. they are all good competitors in some fashion or another.
