Saturday Heat Draws

The driver's meeting has ended. Here are the heat draws for the first heats on Sat. AM.

1A: U-1, U13, U16, U37, U100
1B: U-3, U-5, U-6, U-25

Video from WXYZ: Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick told WXYZ he rides motorcycles over 100 mph, but that rush can't compare to the ride he got on the Detroit River in advance of the Gold Cup races.

Great photo from Bill Osborne of the start of the final race in Evansville this year shows the U-6, U-37, U-16 & U-3 side-by-side. Worth a look.

Map of Gold Cup course

Don't have official speeds yet, but this morning the U-37 was tearing it up, topping 161 mph. That's the Beacon Plumbing's fastest of the season so far.

Both U-16 Ellstrom Elam Plus and U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto/Miss Madison topped 158. That's U-6 driver Steve David's fastest qualifying lap this season as well.

Obviously, river conditions are good Friday.
